The only word that comes to mind is “unworthy,” in regard to its location. The form I could tolerate but simple form and cheap looking cladding—might as well call Kaufman to drop a deuce on 5th Ave.
Looks high quality from what I can see in this photo. But to be able to judge it better, I’ll tell you next month. Because then I’ll finally be back in NYC for a few days.
Yes, that is my only complaint. Seams between panels are sometimes unavoidable; but I would like to see the ‘seam gaps’ spaced somewhat evenly.
In terms of aesthetics: this is what I consider to be odd-looking, yet somehow appealing. I like the glittering aluminum “bricks” and the porthole windows, not to mention the tall square crown. This will be one of those buildings where some will hate it, some will love: few will be indifferent.
A new building that tries to rise above being simply a ‘commodity’ or ‘building standard’ alway gets my admiration: even when it does not quite make the grade of what one might call a “Classic Beauty”.
It’s not a RAMSA: but it is still ‘eye candy’ to me…
Warped Tour 2024
What a joke!
The Architectural design of the building is clearly not considered to be ‘fine design’ or ‘tasteful’ by many.
There are some preliminary concept renderings for interior design of one apartment published on the internet. I find this interior design to be quite elegant - tasteful.
BTW. I think these are computer generated graphics: if so, I am amazed how vivid, and life-like, this looks. Even the subtle faded reflections on the glass are completely convincing - brilliant work.
Kuoo Tamizo Architects.
I’ve tried not to complain too much about this one, but I can’t take it anymore lol. Just walked up from the Flatiron through Madison Sq Park, this building is just horrendous. Lazy design, tacky facade, cheap glass, destroys an iconic sightline, zero integration into either street wall. All that for only 26 luxury units in an 800 footer is absurd. Literally the only “good” thing this has is that it’s “tall”
Who is even the architect/ developer on this? hope to see no more from them. Wouldn’t mind if they skimp out on the box crown and keep this thing’s profile as small as possible.
Five Points Development is the developer. Meganom is the designer. SLCE is the executive architect.
Me personally, I dont think its as bad as everyone thinks. I actually like the change to have that rippled cladding over a majority of the tower
I quite like the look of the randomised brick pattern specifically for the spandrels, but I think the shear walls would look much better in the original polished metallic finish.
Thanks for the laugh!
To my untrained eye that looks like a photograph of a showroom with a backdrop.
I have disagreed with many of you on this building That was until the point of the carnival style glass they installed. We’ll see how it looks when installed en masse but I don’t think it will get better. It also low key ticks me off that there will only be 26 units in this thing. It feels pretty wasteful.
It seems like the city is running out of ideal spaces for this type of tall, luxurious building. This, 520 Fifth and Hudson Yards are kind of huh? locations.
