NEW YORK | 262 Fifth Ave | 860 FT | 60 FLOORS

There are 2 small portholes then 1 big porthole every other floor, because the full building width has not been achieved yet, the 2 porthole (one of which is only visible) looks off center because its partner hasnt shown up yet. :+1: The larger single porthole hasnt been put yet either because its too close to the end of the wall, it probably wont show up until it pasts the neighboring building.

I don’t know what you mean by it’s partner hasn’t shown up yet. Aren’t they created when the concrete is poured? Or is it a fake window?

There is going to be another one mirrored with it, but it cant be poured because they would be too close to the wall edge of the neighboring building. Its a 2small, 1 large configuration for each level. The circles that are visible are the 2 small ones but only one is poured for each set atm. Thats why the one looks offset, because its partner porthole is not there.

These ones aren’t the best, the sun was blinding me in the first and last one, even looking through the viewfinder, sorry about that.

I suspect this one is going to grow very quickly, the normal floors have been reached and the building is now the same height (rebar may have passed by a few more feet) as the neighboring building. So it will be interesting to see how the cantilever is built out. Lot more crane pieces were waiting along 5th.

It’s only a matter of weeks until we are able to see the full “set” of portholes.

The fact that the entire facade is glassy, smooth, and shiny will also help with that “stand out” look. Somewhat like a long thin sheet of tin-foil. I like this building - a real stand out work of architecture.

@infoshare I havent necessarily formed an opinion about this but for the fact that the massing is very boring, but there’s not much that could be done about that since the site itself is fairly small and they decided to set the building back from the property line on both streets not to mention that they’re cantilevering over the neighbor, an aspect that should begin in the coming days/weeks now that it has surpassed it’s neighbor.

The bookend to @JC_Heights’ images :+1: Seems to be moving at about a floor per week atm from my update last week. I imagine the crane will lift itself within the coming days.

It looks like those windows will be off center and then those above will be on center when the cantilever widens the building. Of course this is pure speculation on my part. If that is the case the cantilever is rather small.

Ok I made a picture because it seems my previous posts trying to describe the window situation didn’t help. The windows you see are these windows boxed out. The second pair of windows on the same floors are not built at this point in time because they would be past the edge (or on the edge) of the current built portion if the building (which is in red, approximately). These windows will not move or be centered later on, the bigger window will be centered. The windows you see are part of the 2 paired window floors. It would not be structurally sound to have added the centered larger windows and the left pair of doible windows to this portion of construction because they would be non existant or too close to the walls edge.

The cantilever will add about another 15-20’ in width.

It looks like this building is pretty much all core, or am I crazy?

Meh, it’s still kind of within the normal range. The core takes up about 30% of each floor plate, but since its on the side it looks like theres way more of it, also due to the fact that we dont see the full width of the occupiable portion yet.

Thanks TKDV, now it makes sense.

@TKDV My opinion on the aesthetics of the design: quirky, unusual and a bit tacky - but I find it appealing for some reason.

I know this is not technically ‘good design’ in the sense that RAM does fine architectural design. The aesthetic aspects of architectural design is best considered simply a matter of opinion when stated by the average observer or member of the general public. I like the “just not my cup-of-tea” attitude - so we can all happily agree to disagree on the matter of aesthetics/beauty.

That being said: this puppy looks fantastic - poor massing, worts and all… :innocent:

If the finished product looks better than a stacked Maytag advertisement I would love to have my opinion changed.

It’s going to look like a bunch of Nakagin Capsule Towers stacked on top of each other.

Thanks for calling this out @Waymond_Womano. I do wish it were more organic and less…predictable.

Yeah I was thinking Asia as well.
