Work is already beginning here for a major, KPF-designed recladding. This was originally built in 1983 for Irving Trust and now functions as the global HQ for BNY Mellon, the United States’ largest clearing firm and custodial bank. With almost no renovations in the past 40 years, this has been well overdue for a glow up. No renderings appear to be available of the finished product. Proposing this new topic so that future updates can be posted here as more information is released!
It doesn’t look that bad to me TBH.
so there are renderings on our internal webpage but i unfortunately cannot share them here.
Is there a reason BNY is so cagey about it? This is not even a high profile project and they’ve already commenced work…
I couldnt tell you, im sure there will be a press release at somepoint but thats not my area.
With KPF involved, I’d expect the new curtain wall to be of much higher quality. Am I right?
Weird. Then again this is the same management that used security guards and cops for years to block off access to a mandatory public space in that building…
From what I’ve seen, its of exceptional quality and never done before on a commercial building.
Intriguing
Looks like the sidewalk extension project is almost done:
The sidewalks were extended to almost twice their original width, and the 45° parking section is now clearly defined.
Photos from today
Some greenery/park-like landscaping would have been a better use of that space IMO.
