Brief video walking around the site at night
“Official” ground breaking July 9th.
“Underground work has been going on for months. Sources said the supertall tower will first poke its head out of the ground in August with the start of vertical core construction.
Structural steel will begin to rise in late spring 2027, followed by topping out in late 2029. The skyscraper will be substantially finished in 2030 and doors will open in 2031”.
August is also when the tower cranes will be on site. Even though I’m not so fond of the neutered design, it is exciting that 2 World Trade Center will finally be rising on site. I hope to see new work above the ventilation system when I hopefully visit for my birthday
The vast majority of the ducts coming out of the 4 perimeter stair shaft stubs are stair pressurization fan ducts (not for a/c), it appears that the new duct they are building to the side will be connected to the painted one to its west and the throat of the existing duct will be rerouted to the new location so that the original fan can be removed from the interior construction path, of which the current fan is in the way of.
Also, thanks to @Speedy1979 and @Auser, your photos offer valuable insight into the “reawakening” process going on here.
Good edit (and image I posted is a composition by @ThreeWentDown)
From this angle it looks like an incomplete low-res Minecraft version of the original 2WTC
Maybe this way some of the painted ductwork ends up in the permanent construction? Like some relic of it’s time asleep waiting for a tenant.
Asked this question earlier, but it’s hard to tell what will become what and where at this moment speaking off the ducts.Would be funny if in some dusty maintenance room a peace of ducts stands out with ugly grafity. Would also look very cheap in a very high end construction.
All of the painted ducts will eventually be replaced when vertical construction resumes, the shafts they are in continue vertically, they can’t remain in their horizontal positions stubbed out as they are.
I explained somewhere earlier in this thread that all these ducts will be “relocated” and the services continued to the first mechanical zone in the podium above the lobby volume. None of it is remaining where it is.
So glad I’m not the only one pleased to see this dynamic being immortalized on the skyline
