NEW YORK | 2 World Trade Center | 1,226 FT | 55 FLOORS

We JUST got a valuable update. Why the fuck do you demand so much? Go to New York if you need such updates

To be fair, they could have put the entire tower up in those 46 minutes. You never know.

The tower is in superposition until is observed.

I would obsessively check the earthcam shots of the other towers on a daily basis back in the old days just to track the smallest developments. The guirella photography is greatly appreciated. It is a weirdly historic thing to capture the first signs of life on 200 Greenwich in 15 years. Hopefully an official cam gets set up soon!

And like I stated very recently, you can still see the camera on top of the Millennium Hilton. Switch it on, Earthcam!

Another company on the move is American Express. After a stressful two years of negotiating a complex transaction, the company has taken over Larry Silverstein’s lease with the Port Authority for the land that the new 2 World Trade Center will stand on. The last missing piece of the WTC’s 16 acres, it will finally be completed in 2031 by the soon to be 95-year-old Silverstein.

The land lease with Port Authority for the 55-story, nearly 2 million square-foot edifice includes options for both a purchase and a renewal option to extend the deal to for a full 99 years — a major long-term commitment to the city by a global financial company.

All AI photos…absolutely terrible. One shot even has the Sears Tower clearly in the background!!

Looks like they’re finally adding more fencing on the west side

Update:

I don’t get why they’re doing it piecemeal when the whole site will need to be fenced by summertime anyway. Like, there’s still going to be space for people to get around it…

Will those giant metal structures with the mural art on them be dismantled? Is the current objective removing all of that before beginning vertical construction?

All of that will eventually be removed. I assume they’ll remove all the ac equipment and structure coverings before going vertical which should possibly happen late summer to early fall

Good to see al that grafiti gone as well, even if it was just temporary. and finally soon to be expected upwards movement instead of some strange pile of artistic alluminum.

Was all the ac equipment and vents for the oculus? Is it just a matter of redirecting where all of that goes or will it ultimately not be needed anymore.

Im not 100% sure but I believe it was all for the oculus though also split between the mechanical space in 3wtc’s podium too. Eventually I know the plan was to have the equipment in 2wtc’s mechanical space too once the podium had been built on the original design

That’s correct that all the mechanical apparatuses is for the underground mall (not just the Oculus).

The mall still needs all the exhaust and intake that was routed through the 2 WTC stump so it’s likely that it will remain and will only be supplumentally rerouted once the lower podium mechanical floors are built or even later (this is still the plan for them to be located in the mech floors). But in general they will be rerouted to another location higher up within the tower.

Yimby members in NYC…why aren’t you visiting this widely accessible site! It’s the World Trade Center!

What for? You won’t see any progress beyond the white fences for a while, from street level.

Even though we “see nothing” it’s ALL historically necessary to me

I keep hoping someone from 1wtc will post a photo online somewhere either from the offices or the observation deck
