I have no idea, but I’m going to exit out of the zoom meeting. Too much bs. The presentation was great, but when CB5 started talking, it went downhill.
I hope this gorgeous building doesn’t get lobotomized and value engineered to death (which is the NYC way) but unfortunately after hearing what the double digit IQ community board members have to say, I’m sure it will. This is why we can’t have nice things.
I will be disappointed if this ends up like tower verre
One WTC got taller, not shorter. Tower Verre was a special case, basically looking to build counter to zoning adjacent to landmark lots. The closest analogy would be 1 Vanderbilt, obviously, and city planning had no issue with 1 Vandy’s height.
We have a whole slide set from the CB5 meeting in the above posts.
Front line story manana!!!
One World Trade Center lost its spire. Now it has a thin antenna. This is not related to the approval process, but nevertheless it shows the pattern among New York City skyscrapers.
At some point along the development process until final completion, it is almost guaranteed the project will be scaled down.
The Instagram account nycurbanism just posted the renders and descriptions of the building. And the reaction is… not so good. Here are only a few comments.
I’m curious, what did this “community board” have to say about 1 Vandy back when it was proposed? Does anyone remember? Did they have any actual input on the design?
Those comments made me cringe. Clearly they have no idea how hard it was to plan this tower that compliments the Chrysler Building and GCT
Smooth brains, all of them. I can feel my brain cells dying off as I read those comments.
One of them, that lady in the post above… wanted it denied. She is the one that spoke first… Ranae … yeah… apparently she does not like tall towers.
One WTC never lost its spire. The spire design changed, but that has zero to do with the land use approvals process.
Its spire was scaled down. OK?
If she doesn’t like tall towers then why is she in New York then
To me this is a better design than 1VB regardless of the height difference.
This is one of the most beautiful building designs I’ve ever seen.
I was thinking the same. I like this more than 1 Vandy. I think the idea that the lattices connect FROM the base to the Crown won me over.
I agree, 1 Vandy is very nice but this makes it look like amateur hour. Then again SOM has always done higher quality work than KPF. And I say that as a KPF fan.
Unfortunately I have no doubt in my mind that this will get chopped down and architecturally lobotomized by short sighted philistines.
Well these people aren’t on the board to approve the overall design, the only thing is to wait I guess. And the wtc spire was because the winds and whatever the material they were gonna use it was dangerous I guess. I love this tower
