NEW YORK | 175 Park Avenue (Grand Hyatt) | 1,580 FT | 83 FLOORS

Right? How exciting would it be watching this rise? Watching the lattice go up would be a joy.

They use COVID-19 and climate change as a excuse to criticize these towers

Community boards are super anti-development. They’re a bunch of political hacks who hate anything taller than 2 floors. We knew this heading into the meeting. In fact I’m surprised they haven’t been more negative.

The community board has no power; their vote is strictly advisory. The power lies with City Planning and the elected officials.

Yeah it has to do also with accessibility for future comm equipment installation or even cleaning. Although the cladding would of done wonders but complicated any communication equipment cleaning, maintenance or addition.

I agreed, regardless of the comments and criticism it all depends on the city and the officials

They need to quarantine their microphones is what they need to do. These people need to social distance 1000 miles from NYC.

More like moving to a mountainous area while socially distanced from NYC

Perhaps they can be friends with NIMBY forums

Cuomo should have taken this building out of the city’s purview like he’s doing with the lots around Penn Station. The anti-development socialists who increasingly control NYC can’t be trusted with such a magnificent project. If this design isn’t built, I’ll take the bitterness and resentment to my grave.

The cementheads on the “community board” and the simians in the instagram comments would 100% have been against the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building if they were alive back then.

I think a lot was accomplished today. We learned a lot. I’m just going to filter out, mentally, the CB5 rubbish, and focus on this beauty.

This tower is a gem, and I think we are all happy.

These people will go full ballistic on Tower Fifth and even 350 Park Avenue if being approved

If the NIMBY numbskulls had their way, NYC would be nothing but a bunch of 1 story clapboard houses built in the Nieuw Amsterdam days.

To me, the craziest comments are re. the architectural design. These CB people are random political hacks and they’re offering design critiques to world class architects. It would be like a random granny telling Lebron how to ball or critiquing Einstein re. his physics theories. Like what?

I totally agree, especially with the crown on top

Egregious and infuriating. What a pathetic display. Hopefully the people who actually have say over the matter have something inside their skulls other than the air that occupies these people’s heads. Unfortunately, this being NYC, I’m not optimistic.

I thought the very same thing. It’s surreal!

Perhaps they want New Amsterdam to be applied to New York

This is clearly true. I support historic preservation, but the goals of historic preservation shouldn’t prevent new landmarks from being constructed next to historic buildings. There needs to be a broader understanding of “harmonious relationship” that considers overall architectural quality of the new project. Two architectural gems next to each other is better than a mediocre forgettable building next to the landmark.

I definitely agree here. It seems that they want New York to look like in the 1900s

I can just picture that one Instagram numbnuts back in the 1930s: “there’s a global depression going on and these fat cats are building these hideous Art Deco skyscrapers?!?! NYC doesn’t need no Empire State Building or Chrysler Building! Disgusting!”
