The hoist is all but gone, and the ground floor is getting windows.

This looks awesome!

Nice design on a challenging parcel. Good to see a glass building that works for a change.

Most glass buildings work

I’ll go with some glass buildings work, starting with the great Lever House on Park.

I agree. Too many buildings are just boring glass boxes. This isn’t a super-interesting nor fancy façade… just glass and colored metal panels… relatively cheap, technically. But they did just enough to make it look nice. It’s very tasteful.

I also give the architect credit for making the façade uniform on all sides. The core sits against the west side, so a lot of architects would have just put a blank concrete or metal-panel wall there. It would have been easy to do, especially since it just faces another building, across a narrow street (Gold St). But no, they covered it in full glass panels so you can’t even tell. Nice.

I agree rbrome. The facade is not fancy but there are some subtle touches about it. There is the nice triangle protrusion that was give a curved point. And the junction between the triangle and the bulk of the building has a slight corner emphasizing the juncture. These didn’t add cost but are nice and help make the building interesting.

The little plaza in front is getting a nice update (it was hard to get good pics)

And they’re pouring most of the sidewalks this week. This is so close to being 100% done externally.

The little park at the corner is small, but cute. I’m so glad they were able to preserve and incorporate the existing, mature trees. (Well, three are incorporated into the design… it looks like they didn’t know what to do with the fourth one.)

With all the densification, Downtown Brooklyn has really be responsible with its streetscape between this and Abolition Park at One Willoughby.
