Not sure about the Moire effect. The comments above seem to be about those slight misalignments along the vertical line of the terracotta tiles: in the tile setting business it is called ‘lip age’ pronounced LIPPAGE.

See photo - those little edges that protrude and seem to be misaligned is actually the way slight difference in each terracotta tile will look when installed onto the curtain wall support brackets.

In the stillborn Khaleesi’s massing render (which is back to front on Google and flipped the correct way here), Steinway appears to have several cantilevers on the Central Park side, analogous with the setbacks on its midtown side. It also appears to be very slightly shorter than it ended up being, judging from the Khaleesi’s 1492’ height, but perhaps even skinnier.

Is there any proof this is anything other than conjecture on the part of this render? Or did Steinway originally feature cantilevers?

Great photos. I remember when the Citibank building and that ‘chippendale top’ building (IBM I think) would have been the Architectural stand-out buildings in those skyline photos - times have surely changed. :star_struck:

I assume they need to bring in another crane to remove the boom from above Steinway Hall?

Is the crown of this building finished? It’s not exactly filled in the way it currently looks.

I’m sure they have some things to finish up, but I believe this was what they always envisioned the top to look like. An open air structure with the lattice work/ panels hiding the mechanicals inside.

Correct, it’s open so wind can pass through and not push the tower too much. There’s also three windbreaker floors in the concrete structure
