@GentriVacation I think there is something wrong with the sewage. There are sewer grates by the building which emanate a horrible smell whenever it is humid. The neighboring buildings don’t have this problem. They also put out the trash in a really hostile place for pedestrians.
@robertwalpole did you live on south end or north end? I love them both, currently live on the north but i dream of getting a place on rector or south cove…
Waste mgmt is one of the issues I’d like to see nyc develop a better strategy for. Part of the issue traces back to 1811 when the master plan for manhattan was drawn up. A crucial element the designers neglected were alleyways. With the absence of alleyways, trash is placed directly on the sidewalk for pedestrians to navigate through. Obviously we can’t go knocking down every other building in the city to create alleys, but citizens also don’t deserve to deal with the “stink clouds” like you’re describing.
The BMU is able to flatten out a bit when not in use— see the joint at the vertical part— so it is overall not that obtrusive on its own. The main issue is that the whole crown should be one floor of glass higher. The entire penthouse mechanical stuff is sticking out
Oh, I know what you mean, it bothers me with Madison Square Park Tower too. It’s just insane how much the BMU’s pop out on One Vanderbilt and 10 and 30 Hudson Yards
