NEW JERSEY | PATH Train Extension to Newark Airport

Even more reason to get started on this ASAP, as NJT seems to be prone to labor disruption, tunnel disruption, Amtrak power issues, bridges getting stuck open, etc.

TRAVEL ADVISORY – Port Authority Offers Guidance for Travelers Navigating Potential NJ TRANSIT Rail Suspension

New travel option provided by the Port Authority between Newark-Penn Station and Newark Liberty International Airport:

  • Beginning May 16, the Port Authority will operate free, direct shuttle bus service between Newark-Penn Station and AirTrain Newark’s P4 station every 20 minutes. The free shuttle buses will not operate between 2 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., traditionally when NJ TRANSIT does not operate rail service. Travelers should allow additional travel time and expect crowded conditions on buses and at stations

I’m surprised the Port Authority is providing free bus service. I feel like last time there were AirTrain disruptions they charged folks $8.50 to take the bus to Newark Penn. This is probably going to be a sizable revenue hit to the Port Authority, as they won’t collect the $8.50 from anyone except Amtrak passengers, plus they’ll have to run these free buses back and forth.

They’re also probably losing out on landing fees and whatnot these days, since EWR is operating at reduced capacity due to ATC issues.
