NEW JERSEY | LOW-RISE / GENERAL Development News + Construction

They’re probably the lowest bidder, so they keep winning contracts or meet certain requirements that others couldn’t meet for their product. As for NJT, they want their super-specific railcars, which adds additional cost because they’re the only buyers of them (and then there’s the issue of the Penn Tunnels which further restricts car specifications). Other agencies bought the same multi-level cars in the past but have since gone with other makers for future car acquisitions for reasons unknown.

Alstom isn’t only screwing up in the US either. Some quick searches yield similar delays and other issues in Europe as well. They need to get their act together.

Right, so I’m not the only one bothered by how outdated these already look. Appearance matters.

Love how the commenters are ripping this singular car apart. Some others also commented on how outdated these already look, comparing them to Caltrain’s Stadler sets, that they’ll probably break down (thanks Alstom/Bombardier) or that they’re a waste of money because the service is still going to suck either way because the infrastructure’s old and crappy.

NJ Turnpike and Parkway are going to get a toll increase. Oh well. Perhaps they can use that extra money to pay for NJT and bring down the fares but thats just whishful thinking.

Kingsland station in Lyndhurst, NJ

Honestly, the new Lyndhurst station makes sense. The town is like 1 mile wide and had 2 stations within 2,800ft of each other. Consolidating them into 1, new, higher-capacity, ADA compliant station is an improvement

Yea the article doesn’t mention what the funds will be used for but I can only assume it’ll go straight back into highway maintenance or for the dreaded extension through JC.

Just one more lane bro…

Should really have its own thread, but I don’t have enough info to fill in the height etc

I wonder how this will play out.

Well according to his resume, he seems like a good fit for the role. Hopefully he can help the agency through a lot of needed improvements.

NJ Transit finally found someone to build the actual lift component of the Raritan River bridge.

I’ve been over the old bridge many times and have observed site progress while doing so and it’s about time they start to resume work on its replacement. Unlike Gateway’s immense progress and speed, this bridge languished with no site activity for several months while they were trying to find someone for the last component.

The new NJ Transit boss has a lot planned.

One thing they really need to do is ditch Alstom or the new trains will never be delivered on time.

I can’t believe they’re planning a huge new office tower for Camden!

Have I stumbled into a time machine in order to end up in the mid-1980s?

Didn’t have this one on my bingo card today.

The area around Rand transportation center is a good spot for this. I’m more curious about the upgrades to the transportation center itself. The article mentions some of the proposals, but it’ll be interesting to see what new info comes out.

Awesome

It’s going to lose so much money. Could still help Camden’s economy, but the cost in state subsidies will be huge.

Looks like the road leading to the Holland Tunnel is going to be reduced from six lanes to four and better pedestrian safety infrastructure along with bike lanes will be added. They are also citing congestion pricing as being a factor in reduced traffic.

Awesome news! This is exactly what should be happening, instead of the proposed widening of the turnpike leading up to the tunnel. According to the article though, it’ll still take 6 years to implement.

The Hudson County widening is the most useless project especially with congestion pricing in place and the upcomming road diet by the Holland Tunnel its going to make even less sense than it already does. This is going to be an excessively dumb waste of taxpayer money and will serve no benefit. Murphy needs to go already so we can get someone to finally kill this and use the money on something more productive like NJ Transit.

An environmental study done by the Turnpike Authority said while more traffic will be moved, air pollution won’t increase.

How does increased traffic (they admit its going to worsen traffic) result in no increased pollution? I’m abaolutely baffled.

If this was a project to improve transit they’d have it tied up for years before construction would ever start and demand a million environmental reviews and other things and actually take “community opposition” into account. This moved along to nearing cosntruction way to quickly even with 3 cities opposing it. This state has its priorities out of line and we all know they bend over for auto traffic.
