MOUNT VERNON | 22 S. West Street | 20 FLOORS

176 units, 20 floors. Near the Mount Vernon West train station.

This project has been waiting on a rezoning of the area around the Mount Vernon West train station for transit-oriented development, increasing allowed density and reducing parking requirements. Last month the Mount Vernon city council approved the rezoning, overriding a veto by the mayor.

The developer has submitted a site plan for approval under the new zoning, and expects the plan to be approved this summer:

a proposal for the $71 million, 176-unit 22 S. West Street Tower in Mount Vernon, which Apicella said the company hopes to get approved by the city before summer.

The rendering suggests the NYC subway will be extended to Mount Vernon, and I for one think this is a worthwhile pursuit.

I didn’t notice that, lol. The pols did float a city takeover for the MTA, though I bet that’s only for the city’s rail network.

Part of what’s now the 5 Train used to extend through Mount Vernon. Short-sighted civic leaders cut it back to the Bronx boundary when it was incorporated into the NYC Subway.
