As of last weekend the old warehouse has been demolished on one of the sites.
Construction permits were issued for this site today. A 12-story, 129-unit building.

This is quite surprising. I thought this one was dead due to the Bates Street Redevelopment plan. Looks like maybe it’s the other way around (or maybe the plan incorporates this project now).
The VVPA is very powerful (it has many very wealthy and politically engaged homeowners who donate to political campaigns) and very NIMBY. They were very opposed to the inclusionary zoning plan.
All in all, the downtown neighborhood associations killed 3 different inclusionary zoning plans last year. It’s sad.
I’m sure they’ll just have to get around this development. The site has been cleared for months now, so I’m not too surprised. And yeah, that’s too bad. We need more inclusionary density
