I’m no construction expert but compared to the other buildings being built in this area this project seems to be moving along slowly. Photos from Sunday April 6
who left their halal out lol
Continued slooooow progress. Been 6 months since they started construction and still have not got to 2nd floor.
looks like a tower crane is being set up at this site. Seems like that’s unusual for a 15 story building. Maybe someone can comment on why this would be needed.
It’s actually pretty standard in most of the world and much of the US outside NYC, even for 6-story buildings. It is a safer and more efficient method of material delivery than temporary mobile cranes and temporary elevators. A big reason it is rare in NYC is that it is more expensive there for several political, legal, and regulatory reasons. And some of that bleeds over to JC.
Here is an article that touches on crane regs briefly:
Outside the NYC metro it’s not unusual to see multiple cranes working in a single mid-rise building
Interesting article thanks for posting it. My son lives in Virginia outside of DC and a mid rise development next to his apartment had 4 tower cranes at the same time. So it makes sense what you are saying. Hopefully I can catch them setting it up.
Big crane showed up today (to assemble the tower crane?) and for some reason metal framing is going up before structural concrete is poured. Can anyone shed light on why the framing is going up before more concrete?
I’ve seen a building assembled this way before. Cold-formed steel construction.
Seen below at Port Imperial, images courtesy of Daniel Bossi.
that’s funny I just rode my bike through Port Imperial a few weeks ago. So the metal framing is load bearing? What separates the floors if not concrete?
Great ride! Need to do that ride again sometime soon when it’s not so hot.
The cold-formed steel wall panels are load-bearing and concrete is poured on the steel for every floor slab.
Another example from Daniel Bossi, in Berkeley Heights, NJ. I learned a lot more than I ever expected about cold-formed steel from watching this guy on LinkedIn:
Same. I think this guy really did a great job marketing for this.
Here’s his company’s website - good amount of information on different wall & flooring systems. Also lists several projects in JC that have used these systems - https://extremeci.com/
Will be interesting to watch I’ll try to provide updates as the walls & floors go up. Also hoping to catch them setting up the tower crane.
Tower crane assembly started today. Looks like it will continue tomorrow if anyone wants to come and watch
the pavements look so fun lol
