Hoboken Terminal is now going to receive renovations and other upgrades. I hope they fix the train shed becuase the platform area is in rough shape.
Site work on the old Hoboken Bus Terminal continues.

They really need to fix the actual train shed and train platforms at Hoboken Terminal. They’re in rough shape. I can see restoration work going on at the actual Terminal but it always seems the platforms get ignored.
There really isn’t any good excuse for why there aren’t level platforms at the station. There seems to be ample enough clearance under the train sheds to build level platforms without needing to reconstruct the entire roof structure.
Now they want to build a few new level platforms way out by the light rail station. Not only is it out out of the way, but how does one pick and choose which train lines have good accessibility?
Update as of 10/10/2025. Appears foundation work for the new plaza is moving forward and a new bus shelter has been installed on fresh concrete.
I think one concern other than cost is the fact it is landmarked and would likely require signidicant alterations to fit high-level platforms. In addition, ramps would be needed to bring riders from the ground level to the platforms. I’m sure there is a reason why they can’t raise the platforms.
Also, the high level platform extension is allegedly under construction but I have yet to see an official update. NJ Transit is really bad about this (e.g look at the extremely delayed Raritan River bridge replacement)
There’s active construction in the area I believe the high level platforms are planned for. I’ll take pics next time I’m on the light rail
Second half of the video shows some aerials of the tower crane construction for Hoboken Connect.
Here are some pics I took today of what I believe to be NJ Transit’s project to build new ADA accessible level platforms at Hoboken Terminal (just north of the Light Rail station)

NJ Transit published photos of the bus terminal and announced it reached substantial completion so an interim terminal is no longer required.
