That makes sense. The original SMART plan that was voted on included stations in Healdsburg and Coverdale, so if this is essentially an extension of that tax measure it makes sense that those (and only those) would be included.
I’m a North Bay native so I spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about what a fully fleshed out SMART network would look like. The idea of landing at Charles Schulz (the world’s chillest airport) and hopping on an interurban to see my family in Napa is just dreamy.
A fully fleshed out SMART network would all lead to a San Rafael BART terminal with fast and frequent rapid transit over a new multi-modal San Rafael-Richmond Bridge to the EB and SF.
Can we build anything anymore in this country? We now have trillionaires but a tunnel through the mountains, or in this case, just a handful of city blocks eludes us. If you want to get really down watch the video on Norway’s latest supertunnel.
If you want to get REALLY down: watch this video on the mountain top train station in CHINA. The good news the AEC industry in America is currently is going through a major transformation: partly due to the applicaiton of AI to the industry in order to create “AI native construction companies”.
BTW. I think we will see major improvements in the next decade regard to increased efficiency in our AEC sector in the USA.
I did not even know about that boondogle. Yes, the productivity lag in the USA compared to other industries (and other conuntries) is now to big to ignore.
It is good to take a hard look for comparason: that is where our future improvements can be recognized and implemented.
I am a big AI Fan, and think it will bring much needed productivity gains to the AEC industry: our built environment in America needs to do better than our current status quo.
BTW: I follow this guy on LINKED IN for this type of information. Here is a good story about a major AI investment in our infrastructure by Anthropic. Enjoy.
