Brutalism + Beauty = BEAUTALISM

Here’s a paywall-bypassed link.

If Trump can replace some of those rather unsightly government buildings with nicer facilities, that’ll probably be one of the extremely few things he’s done right.

Hey, I agree with him on something.

Anyone laying odds that we get slot machines in all those facilities?

Dartmouth, Massachusetts

This looks like a beautiful place to go to college.

Another Umass campus with lots of brutalist buildings - I was there last year and captures these pics - interesting and a bit dystopian.

I would like to see more, especially the second building. I know I am in the minority but I like a lot of Brutilist architecture. At the very least one must admit that most is not boring.

Other than potentially cool vantages for photos, it looks like a prison and the interiors probably are devoid of natural light.

It seems a lot of universities have the misfortune of having ugly brutalist edifices for classrooms and other facilities.

Agree - brutalist buildings look really cool in pictures - but, at least for me, they feel really oppressive in real life - they kinda sucked all the life around them.

I think a lot of northeastern colleges went from quaint and European to dystopian

They had a meeting about preserving it because the architecture being…you know it’s different

Too bad, it looks like it would make a cool arts space but man, you would have to burn a LOT of Paolo Santo to cleanse this space.

here are some cool pictures:

Thanks Alemel. That copper building is a perfect example of BIG’s talent shining through on the smaller projects, skyscrapers, not so much. Obviously not Brutilist, but creative and exciting and I might say; architectural eye candy. Bravo to BIG.

Exactly. BIG’s skyscrapers are lame, but this is cool as a large piece of sculpture.

It’s exceptional. :+1:

Too bad it’s such an ugly building.

Maybe they have stopped building their own stores and instead renting existing existing empty space. There are certainly lots of places to rent for low rents right now.
