I’m all for this project, but I find some of the decisions behind it pretty confusing.
What needs is there for a Hesperia station and a Victorville station?
Why connect to Rancho Cucamonga and Palmdale? Especially considering how flat and straight the ROW to Palmdale is, and that Palmdale will connect with the CA HSR network, facilitating one-seat rides to LA Union that Rancho Cucamonga never will?
If you’re going to tackle the immense technical challenge of getting over the Cajon Pass, why wouldn’t you extend a few more miles West along the relatively flat and straight Metrolink corridor to Montclair/Clairmont/Pomona to link to the LA Metro A Line? Or south ~2 miles to the Amtrak ROW to connect to the future LA-IE-SD section of CA HSR?
This makes a lot of sense.
