10/10 project. This is the level of quality Penn Station deserves.
7.5/10 for me. The tower is yet another a blue glass building that’s at least not just a box. At the station level, the three buildings have three very different styles, and they look like they were haphazardly pushed together with no thought of complementing each other. The “domes” are cool, but the bus depot that faces them is fugly and way too visible. Then there’s the (so far) big gap between the domes and the old station house. Hopefully they close off that open space to keep the rain and snow out, but it doesn’t seem like that’s likely at this point. Plus, the domes clumsily butt right up against the old station house blocking the sunlight that used to come in, making it dark and foreboding in there. It’s definitely an improvement over the previously uncovered train tracks, but it’s also a lost opportunity to do something truly spectacular in a heavily used public space.
