This morning
Does anybody know why One World Trade Center hasn’t had the light beacon recently? If I recall correctly, it is supposed to have a beacon light show (revolving beam like a lighthouse) at night.
Yeah, based on the renderings it supposed to have some sort of beacon at the top of its spire.
Does anyone have any information about a timeframe for the beacon to get fixed?
If Central Park Tower were about 2000 ft roof height. Clearly the New York skyline can sustain a megatall.
I found that article years ago… I bet they scrapped it cuz it never came back
If so, outrageous! Nearly every rendering of One WTC since 2006 show a bright beacon, one they promised for everyone to see. Now it’s ripped away carelessly. Guess they don’t care about the ones who were affected by the attacks, but it’s ok if they can pocket money for themselves.
Yeah, a megatall doesn’t look nearly as out of place as it might have before the last half-decade’s worth of towers went up. There are a couple locations I think would be ideal for NYC’s first megatall:
- Midtown East, near Grand Central / along the Park Ave corridor
- Fifth Ave near Central Park South
- Broadway between Times Square and Columbus Circle
- The Penn Station District
- Financial District (I still contend that a 2000 ft. version of 2WTC would be perfect with the right design)
Where would you like to see one?
Edit: Sketched in a few of the above locations just for visualization purposes (original photo: @nyclivesnyc on Instagram)
Old one, but still nice

This article explains a lot about the mechanics of the beacon
Lower Manhattan is a better location for a mega tall. The World Trade Center is a already the pinnacle of the skyline, so a mega tall would definitely fit.
But the beacon isn’t lit!
Someone who lives in New York should contact them directly and ask them to put it back on!
