I think everyone on the forum would really appreciate this interview. John R. Voorhis, born 1829 in Pompton Plains NJ, moved to NYC the following year. This video shows him in 1929, at nearly 100 years old, discussing the changes the city has gone through during his lifetime. Imagine what he would think if he saw it today!
