I wonder what the high priority is then. The building is done and has been done, besides basic maintenance the only thing to do is fix the light situation
I’m not sure what is “high priority” in regards to maintenance but lighting isn’t it. Good examples: 4 WTC’s top strip is still broken and has been that way for over a year and 1MW has blown-out LED strips as well which results in a somewhat “patchy” appearance of its lighting. It’ll also probably take over a year for 2 Manhattan West’s lights to turn on which is a similar timeframe to 1 MW’s given the building was completed long before the lights got switched on.
In the big picture of things, it’s really only those of us that use forums like these that care about lighting on buildings. Everyone else don’t notice or care much about it. What’s more, I doubt the residents of these buildings care if the top is illuminated or not and that’s what matters to the developers.
I would be disappointed in JDS/SHoP if 111w57 and BK Tower are not lit up. A part of the architectural story for these buildings is night-time illumination. Especially 111w57, where the moire effect could be shown.
BK Tower is expected to have nighttime lighting. This rendering shows what it’d look like and it’d be a travesty if it was omitted.

Am I the only one here who actually prefers buildings without a lot of lighting? I love seeing all the individual windows lit up at night when people are in their apartments. It gives tall buildings such a sense of scale when you can see all the individual floors.
It’s a different story with 111W57th, as the east and west facades hide almost entirely solid shear walls apart from a few window slits on each side per floor.

The moire-effect lighting would be illuminating an otherwise almost pitch-dark facade when it’s hopefully completed.

I wish there was one for midtown/Long Island city
That reminds me, someone is making a 30-year timelapse of midtown. I’m not sure if anything is available online yet, however.
