The company behind the high speed rail project between Houston and Dallas revealed new details yesterday about the project, including that it has only secured about one-quarter of the land needed to make the bullet train a reality—and that it is now under new ownership and management.

As of now, only 25 percent of the required 1,600 land parcels have been acquired, including around 500 single-family homes, and some previously secured options on additional properties have expired. Gent emphasized that the project is under reassessment, with partnerships involving firms like Bechtel and Lane Construction, and they are targeting federal grants available through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Fat chance there will be any train $ coming in from the Feds.

This forum really needs a sad face emoji.

And the Secretary of Transportation hailed this as money saved for the taxpayer, while using the other hand to sign billions for highways that provide zero benefit to anyone.

Many interstate overpasses have reached the end of their useful life. The sad truth is this country is in need of upgrades for many systems.

And our rail system is slow, plagued with issues and needs investment. We should not be diverting rail grants to highway projects. They get enough money (more like too much)

Christie did similar shit when he killed the first iteration of Gateway to fund “highway projects”.
