PHILADELPHIA | 76 Place at Market East | FT | FLOORS

“The 76ers are ready to bring a new, championship caliber arena back to the heart of Philadelphia. 76 Place is proposed as the new home of the Philadelphia 76ers, where we will build a new arena that is privately funded and developed in collaboration with the community. We are committed to working with local stakeholders to ensure the project supports the surrounding neighborhoods and promotes economic opportunity, inclusivity and accessibility.”

I love all of the unique and awesome designs new stadiums are getting.

Allegiant Stadium, SoFi Stadium, this one. As opposed to older ones that are far more boring. Metlife I’m looking at you. But really it’s most of them.

“The $1.3 billion arena would be complete in time for the start of the 2031-2032 season, which is when the Sixers’ lease at the Wells Fargo Center ends. Demolition could begin as early as 2026 and construction could start in 2028.”-Philly Voice

This is good news for Philly.

In the meantime, NY is saddled with a crap arena that hampers the redevelopment of Penn Station.

Lol, I believe they’re playing with the people who are against this project

"The Philadelphia 76ers are expanding plans for a $1.3 billion Center City arena to include a 20-story apartment tower that would sit atop their proposed Market Street home.

The mixed-income residential building, which would cost an additional $250 million and be funded by private investment, is one of several new elements announced by the Sixers on Wednesday. The 395-unit tower was added in response to community concerns about how the proposed arena, called 76 Place, would impact housing affordability in the area, according to the team."

Mostly I just don’t want them to take away my movie theaters. Philly was always weird in not having any kind of cineplex downtown. Now we finally have one and I don’t want to lose it! (This arena would replace our brand-new, eight-screen, dine-in AMC.)

I get why the Sixers want their own new arena. But Philly already has such a great sports complex that’s VERY easily accessible by highway and subway, with plenty of parking lots where a new arena could easily be built. Why downtown?
