I think 4 WTC is the only one that didn’t have drastic changes made to it.

4 WTC got a height increase after that render was made

My one problem with the new complex is that every new building has been taller than their original expect for WTC 2. With either BIG or Foster design the building ends up being smaller than the South tower.

Old

1 WTC: 1,728 feet with Antenna

2 WTC: 1362 feet

3 WTC: 250 feet

4 and 5 WTC: 120 feet

7 WTC: 610 feet

New

1 WTC: 1776 feet with spire

2 WTC: 1348 feet

3 WTC: 1079 feet

4 WTC: 978 feet

5 WTC: 900 feet

7 WTC: 741 feet

Found this article very interesting. It also points out how the original WTC and the Empire State building had the same issue for a few years before they started to see profits.

“ The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the 16-acre site and manages some of its buildings, recorded a loss of almost $30 million from operations last year, not counting depreciation, amortization and bond payments, according to the agency’s latest annual report.

While the One World Trade Center tower is profitable, operating costs for the surrounding campus, which includes a park, a transportation hub and car checkpoints, pushed the complex into the red, according to the agency”.

“In the Port Authority’s 2019 budget, the cost of security is projected at $91.4 million, the single biggest operating expense at the World Trade Center, up from $74.6 million in 2017”.

“Security costs are expected to keep rising, according to the Port Authority, as the agency plans to build a tower at Five World Trade Center and as more people work or shop in the area”.

“The 3.1-million-square-foot office tower recorded an operational profit of about $47 million after bond payments last year, the agency said. The World Trade Center’s gross operating revenue increased to about $304 million, from $207.6 million in 2015. But its operating expenses climbed to $333.8 million, from $258.7 million”.

“The attacks on September 11th had a lasting impact on the city and the world. An ordinary day in this neighborhood has special significance.

Construction projects have brought new commercial and residential developments to the area“.

Organizers and advocates cite the following statistics about growth in Lower Manhattan:

  • 3 World Trade Center, which opened in June 2018, is the newest office tower on the campus and fifth-tallest in Manhattan
  • Public and private investment has contributed $30 billion to help transform the neighborhoods
  • Private sector employment has been at the highest point since September 2001
  • 61,000 residents live in the area, which is triple the population in 2001

November 12, 2010 - views from one of the last unleased floors of WTC 7

Notice the two gigantic girders that hold up the PATH roof hall. So exciting seeing it in person like that

It amazing how much the site has changed in nine years and still so much to be finished.
