LPC: letâs put a hold on demoltion while we vote on designation
Also LPC: doesnât vote, temporary stay lapses.
smfh. Another Gilded Age mansion in NYC gone. This committee needs to be reformed or replaced.
It certainly was a surprise, though not shocking. The DOB issued a demo permit on Tuesday the 19th, so itâs evident that LPC and DOB donât communicate at all, which doesnât make sense. And if they do communicate, they must be using telegraphs.
It was crazy to watch the last of it just collapse when the excavator pulled on it.
Either way the 7 story apartment building thatâs going to replace it is probably going to be painfully boring.
Sickening
Perhaps the exterior facade couldâve been maintained and the entire building couldâve been repurposed (not used though), just how they did the Domino Sugar factory building.
I wonder if NYC will ever get a marina bay sands type of building?
they say itâs about saving lives but we all know its about raking in that ticket money. Iâm not driving anybody around the city when this policy is in effect. A lot of people I know have been getting those dreaded envelopes in the mail. Thereâs no human discretion in the enforcement, its all computerized. They donât hit your license with points because they know its imperfect, they just want your money.
What do you think about the Second Avenue Subway Extension being extended even further as a crosstown between East Harlem and West Harlem/Manhattanville? It is not even imaginable about how much development will sprout from this extension in East Harlem, as itâs been rezoned up to R7 (I believe?), and central Harlem in general. (I mean, look at how much development is being done in East Harlem already.)
Smh.
The problem is huge, but the good news is more and more people are coming around to significant increases in density being necessary. The winds are changing on the progressive side away from knee-jerk-anti-development to build build build. Adams should be pushing for big rezoningsâŚ
