Mamdani Launches Program to Fast-Track Affordable Development

New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani on Wednesday announced the new Neighborhood Builders Fast Track, an expedited process to speed the delivery of affordable housing on city-owned land. With Neighborhood Builders, the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) will pre-qualify affordable housing builders and shorten the pre-development Request for Proposals process by eight months for certain projects.

Together with the new Expedited Land Use Review Procedure approved by voters last November, Neighborhood Builders will cut the pre-development process by more than two years, according to the mayor’s office.

“Our city is facing a historic housing crisis — the last thing we need to do is tie ourselves in red tape,” said Mamdani. “The Neighborhood Builders Fast Track will speed up housing development and make it faster to build on city-owned land.”

HPD is releasing a Request for Qualifications due May 8t for affordable housing developers who will pre-qualify for the Neighborhood Builders program. HPD expects to use Neighborhood Builders to advance development of up to 1,000 new homes over the next two years.

I said this before but I can imagine the NYC metro area growing to 25 million in my lifetime. We would just need all cities in Westchester (Yonkers, White Plains, New Rochelle, Mount Vernon), Long Island, NJ and CT to all be onboard with the growth.

Well this abandoned building finally burned down. Could’ve been insurance fraud or squatters inside, would this mean a new building is finally coming at this sight possibly? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WeUB62XoWQ

kinda sad, but nothing unusual. The Whales sometimes swim through commercial shipping lanes and be struck, or just die naturally.

Totally forgot when Electro attacked the ConEd plant in Astoria a few years back. Good thing Spider-Man handled it.

More pedestrian space and drivers get dedicated turn lanes instead of a third lane that just traps you. not a bad deal

Not sure I understand, @bpc. Aren’t they still going to be trapped behind double-parked cars?

A huge improvement IMO.

Please let it be the second one.

I would also prefer they not do those selective bulbouts. Those are not supported by history and all it accomplishes is the diminished line, symmetricity and monumentality of Park Avenue.

And for all things holy, can we get some bespoke streetlights for the entirety of Park?

It needs to be mentioned the little building on the corner razed for this was absolutely gorgeous. Any other civilized society would have saved that structure and built around it.
