Today’s conference (4-8-2020)
So basically this is another bone to the rabid “close everything” ivory tower people without having any actual teeth. Sigh.
supermoon tonight. I have a nice view from the West of it rising over the Hudson. Nice reflection on the night water. Don’t have a good camera sadly.
edit: from earthcam, now rising between the WTC
now its crowing 3 wtc
someone caught it on the panorama earlier:
reflecting on the river:
Does anyone know if these empty lots across from Liberty State park will developed any time soon? This is prime waterfront property
That is phase 2 of Liberty Harbor. The link above from apophenic has a rendering of what the area will look like at some point. There’s ongoing work on the last few parcels of phase 1, then presumably phase 2 will start. Even the empty spaces to the left of the photo has approved/proposed projects in the pipeline.
Looks like they’re extending the boardwalk from Detmold.
Any speculation as to when construction will resume here? I’d guess it’ll be one of, if not the first industry to resume.
Antibodies lag by three weeks, and testing (sample size almost 1,300 in NYC) shows 21%+ have them already. Which means the real rate could easily be 30-40%+, and that it is time for NYC to re-open, as herd immunity is likely imminent and we have passed the halfway point of infections without overwhelming the hospitals.
I don’t know why masks haven’t been mandated for everyone leaving the house yet, but reopening and mandating masks is the only viable path forward at this point.
The governor announced last week that it was required to wear masks, but without any fine if you didn’t.
“ New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo will sign an executive order that requires everyone in the state to wear a mask or a mouth/nose covering in public when not social distancing, he said Wednesday.
There will be a three-day notice period before the order is enforced, allowing New Yorkers to secure masks or coverings. He said he is considering a civil penalty for those who break the rule.”
It is totally toothless. It also has the caveat “when not social distancing”. It should just be mandatory for whenever someone is in public. The “guidelines” of six feet of distance have been debunked anyways.
Agreed. Seen a lot of people without masks after this order was given. Got to scare people with a crazy amount of fines to get people to follow the rules.
Cities in Asia, like Singapore, have been doing well getting people to acclimate to social distancing standards. I’m sure the city will have to eventually put in their own measures since not everyone is wearing a mask when they should be.

Almost every building in Manhattan has got their permits back. Any high-profile development seems to qualify as “essential facility” or “essential business” or both. No idea why, but I’m not complaining. About time.
To be clear, the developers are apparently committed to trying to be safer with work. Less people on the job at once until the official PAUSE order ends. In commercial neighborhoods, this might mean 24/7 work, with three 8 hour shifts, so the same amount of work per day = much less crowding
Haven’t seen a mask for sale in months. How does one ‘secure’ one if you’re going to require things? What has gov cuomo done to make sure that his citizens have access to one, other than try to look presidential during his daily press briefings?
Is there a list somewhere that tracks all of the buildings built in the past decade or so and that are proposed/underway that used these kinds of air-rights transfer rules?
