NEW YORK | Tower Fifth | 1556 FT | 96 FLOORS

Towers don’t do much on buildings that don’t lead your eyes naturally to look at it. One Vanderbilt does that nicely. The building render we’ve seen For this one totally fails at that. Putting a tower on this one will just seem incongruous.

I don’t see how he’s getting a loan for a 1m sf spec tower.

If Larry can’t get 2WTC up, Macklowe can’t get this up. They run smaller firms, whilst Brookfield and Related are so huge supertalls are like peanuts to them

I have a feeling this won’t see the light of day. At least in its current form.
Unless by some insanity its built on spec.
I honestly hope I’m right. This atrocity being constructed would be a travesty.
If it does get built it will create a turd on the nyc skyline that will be hard to polish over.
This has the skyline ruining potential of the verizon tower in lower manhattan but on steroids.
I truly despise this building.
Someone hold me back

It actually kind looks decent with a spire. Or maybe because its a far. Its going to take a lot to stomach this design IMO.

The top looks too gimmicky and comical. It also looks very similar to 432 Park, one is enough on the skyline. At over 1500 feet, it’ll be hard to ignore.

I don’t like this thing.

Macklowe has zero to do with Silverstein, and the Plaza District has zero to do with the WTC. Also, this tower will have only 1/3 the space of 2 WTC, and the tenant mix will be completely different.

And of course he can build it. He already has lined up initial financing. He has built larger buildings, and he built a similarly tall building (432 Park). There’s huge demand for high-end office space in this part of Midtown.

I have no doubt this will be built, unless there’s a significant recession or some regulatory obstacle.

They somewhat say they’re not doing this. If not I’ll be so happy

This tower has turned me into a NIMBY.

Sounds like buying the consulate is virtually impossible, but he didn’t sell his stake in any of the dev sites that would be part of this tower. Not that I’m a fan of the developer or design, but I would like to see something spectacular built here.

I think that a 1,200’ RAMSA condo/hotel with boutique offices would be a huge success. There’s a market for very high-end condos that are done well in the right location.

It could be built entirely on the 52nd St side. A 1,200’ version of 220 CPS would be amazing.

maybe Macklowe can get the consulate site if he gives Venezuela the penthouse office for free for the life of the new building haha

I was wondering what’s going on with this. I hope that this POS isn’t built.

This building is spectacular. Will be the new midtown king, at least for a short while.

What universe do you live in? It’s stunningly, unbelievably hideous. I’ve never opposed a skyscraper being built in my entire life until I saw this.

What he said. It’s an opinion, but it’s unbelievable to me that people like this thing. It’ll damage the skyline if built

I still like this building regardless imo
