NEW YORK | Tiffany & Co. (727 5th Ave) | FT | 10 FLOORS

At Tiffany’s traditionally the expensive jewellery is on the main floor. This glass addition seems to mirror their selling strategy lately.

Contractors made construction history last weekend when they used a massive crane to lift another, smaller crane to the top of the new Tiffany flagship store at 727 Fifth Avenue.

This is only the fourth time in New York City construction history that a crane has lifted a crane onto the roof of a building.

The mobile crane will be used to continue transformation of the store. It will help build the upper addition (floors 8, 9, and 10) of the 10-story building from office space into an exhibition, event and client space.

Looks good. This building is so basic.

I am surprised that they did not give the outside of the building a good cleaning. It’s not like they have no money.

Looks like Tiffany & Co had a grand reopening yesterday with a bunch of celebrities in attendance. I believe we can mark this one as complete.

Kind of reminds me of what they did to Cafe des Artist, ruined it. Much preferred the old world warmth of wood paneling and well worn cases. But, then again, I’m well worn as well. I now fully appreciate having lived in NYC in the 70’s and 80’s. Dinner at 21 or the Four Seasons, the Ocean Club or The Quilted Giraffe, shopping at Bonwits, Bendel, Lord and Taylor. Even being insulted by Elaine at Elaine’s. All gone, I guess as they say “that’s life in the big city”. I was there last year, probably for the last time. It just didn’t feel the same, no longer familiar to me, no longer electrified me as it once did. Sad
