I’m a fan of both really. Who cares if the 57th Street towers will be as empty as they say, they have incredible designs. And I’m sure they’ll be filled in the future, I wonder if they’ll lower the prices like Manhattan Square. And for Hudson Yards, I’m also a really big fan. A little too blocky, but the way the cladding is used and mixed is very nice. 10 and 30 HY have those incredible angles and ridges, very perfect for New York. And Vessel is amazing, I still haven’t been on it
I see Hudson Yards as the experimental trend of architecture for NY. I think Phase II, we will see this experimental nature come alive for round two. Its kinda like a sand box in my view, where the architecture that is typically not in NY comes alive, and is a trend setter. Its what the Jordans were to sneakers.
Penn Station district will be next which is exciting. 20 mil square feet+ potential.
On a side note, I have yet to go to the 30 Hudson deck. I wanted too, along with my Europe trip, but things went to shit unfortunately in March/April. 2020 is a year to forget.
I’m kind of afraid of Phase 2. Sure it’s exciting to see the growth, but I don’t want anything blocking the current Hudson Yards. I think Hudson Yards stands out well as it is right now, and to see all of that blocked I think would be somewhat tragic…at least to me. I hope the towers are under 800 feet to let Phase 1 stand out, but I have a great feeling they’ll be taller than that. And yes, 2020 is terrible, but it can get better. Let’s just say YIMBY is expanding to a city near where I am, that’s one way 2020 got better for me
For me, I’d me happy if Phase II included more units. Granted it will number in the 1000’s, but it kinda irks me sometimes when we see these developments, with unit counts that are lackluster (especially given how competitive the housing situation is for available units). It would be nice to see several and I mean several units in Phase II. Would be great if it was 10,000 units.
There was that Silverstien proposal at one point that went over the 1000 unit mark if I recall, and we need more of that type of thinking. I’d trade height for unit count. With residential, its a major thing.
Not to say I am a total fan of super block towers, like the mass unit towers we see in SE Asia, but if pulled off right, it can add wonders to ease the demand. NY can incorporate these the right way. I just wish the will and quite frankly, the zoning was aggressive to accommodate.
But anyways, back to the Spiral. Had to vent.
A lot of people criticize 66 Hudson for being “too blocky”. Yes I can see why people argue that, but I love the way the blockiness is used to make the spiral effect all over the tower from bottom to the top. At least it’s not an actual boring box, I love this one. And I hope they actually get greenery on each terrace
As the McDonald’s signs say, I’m loving it!

Here’s a bonus shot from last nights adventure. I originally didn’t want to post this one, but I think it looks trippy.
I love the sheer massiveness of these buildings.
