With the PAC? All the lights are not on, only half of them are, most likely intentionally because they dont need all of them on to be working on the interiors.
Like baronson mentioned, there is a cover on a good portion of the back face of the marble, probably to protect them while something is being sprayed or coated .
There is likely paper/foam taped on the inside of the panels right now to prevent damage during final buildout. The light is only blocked on the theater level, not the other floors. The LEDs cast light from the spandrels inside onto the panels so if there were something directly against the panels it would block the light.
I doubt it. The illumination of this building is the SINGLE greatest part of this project. I’m sure they did lots of testing / planning specifically around the lighting. It literally makes or breaks the building.
Progress on Greenwich St, they’ve flattened out alot of the mounds of dirt and backfill along the street and are rapidly finishing up the sidewalk on the eastern side. While I do like that there is now an elevator to the Cortland St subway station, I don’t like that it just sticks out into the sidewalk, it takes up about 2/3rds the width, the same for the stairs, though not visually disrupting the mass of the PAC, they disrupt the sidewalk width too. They’ve been doing some utilities work on the northeast corner, there’s a big trench leading to the building but the area around it seems to already be completed, just messy.
Progress on Vesey St between this and 7WTC, a large number of the curb stones have already been placed, the sidewalk on this building has also already been completed and the roadway has already been asphalted over, theres a really big height discrepancy betwen the PAC’s new roadway and the old roadway that will need to be torn up and releveled that is evident when walking on the narrow fenced in walkway between the buildings.
The stair opening that I have no idea where it leads to on the west side of the building, I’m imagining that it may lead into somewhere along the Fulton St underground passage to BP, but I honestly don’t know. But other than the staircase itself and the immediate area around it, the west side plaza/hardscape of the building is done, the same for the south side. I imagine sometime within July that they’ll remove the weighted fencing and just put up the moveable shorter partitions as they’ve done for the south portion.
I know older plans had always called for that elevator and stair entrance to the subway, but im wondering why they were unable to integrate them into the structure of the PAC (like other developments largely do with having them just open to the sidewalk) so that they weren’t impacting the sidewalk clearace. I’m under the impression that there just wasnt enough space because of the VSC related infrastructure in the podium.
I’m glad that the elevator massing atleast references the podiums height, but that tall stick/antenna thing attached to it is jarring.
May be off topic, but has anyone noticed they made new markings on Fulton street in front of the oculus and on Greenwich street in front of 3 and 4 wtc? The first pic is from yesterday afternoon and the second 2 are from today. It would appear they filled in the marking on Fulton street as a sort of sidewalk extension. Perhaps in preparation for the closure of the Greenwich walkway in front of 2 wtc? ?
Maybe for cars to park? Since it’ll technically be a street for specific vehicles like taxis/black cars, buses ECT. to park along? I’m assuming it has something to do with the rest of Greenwich being completed this fall?
“Once complete, a public plaza between the Center and One World Trade Center will accommodate pop-up outdoor performances and seating for the campus.” I was hoping to hear that!
Concrete pouring currently going on at the last stretch of Greenwich. They’re doing it in strange sections but hopefully this is all done before 9/15 when the PAC opens. Now you can really start to the full 2 WTC plaza outline coming to fruition. Hopefully that will be fully outlined soon and hopefully they make this look all nice while we wait for 2 WTC to rise.
