I still wish the base was the same marble as the rest but all in all its looking great!
Love the pictures @Alemel, you’ve been covering a lot of my old update spots before I had to leave the city. What did the guard say to you? I’ve never understood how these guys get away with that nonsense, you have every right to take whatever photos you want, if you are taking them from public spaces
To be honest, I climbed on one of the benches to get a better angle The guards at the Memorial started shouting at me to get down.
I find the guards at The Perelman very patient with me (I’m there almost every other day).
I see it now; you are right; the angle seems off.
I remember I got photos of Koenig’s Sphere under tarp at the east side of 2 WTC’s site. A guard saw me, said nothing, and kinda stalked me walking along the fence. He’s doing his job though
I have been harassed by guards for taking photos from the sidewalk. I wasn’t doing anything like climbing a fence or standing on anything other than sidewalk, just taking a photo of a site. I told them I was on public property and had every right; they had no jurisdiction. They kept verbally harassing me (union-related worries, I guess?) but I stood my ground and they didn’t touch me, presumably because they knew I was right. It takes a lot for a private security guard to get physical with you, and trespassing is a very basic prerequisite. That is is the law, and however poorly-trained they may be, they at least know that much.
The amount of progress coming from the PAC is evident through the large amount of noise I can hear coming from the site in my apartment, which isnt even that close to the building. It’s really weird seeing it again since the last time I saw it, it didnt have any marble panels installed I don’t believe.
I will venture out to take some photos and will maybe catch Alemel in action .
Didn’t realize you were a lower manhattanite TKDV. I miss living there so much
I just moved here for work, so I can only say I’ve been a Manhattanite for 2 days , but everyone can expect another photo updates member through me. I live in FiDi, but work in Midtown, so I’ll get around. I can definitely see why you miss living here!
Congratulations, I’m jealous. It’s a good time to be downtown now that things have had a year or so to rebound. Was pretty bleak in 2021.
Thanks @bpc I can definitely imagine it having been pretty barren in 20 and 21, but it definitely has rebounded.
My first photo dump, (these are not from my apartment, I wish lol)
Can confirm that the pavers on the sidewalk that have been installed are following the same angle that the PAC is set on/ are parallel to the south face. Curb block installation has also started in that region. Bollards have been installed to connect the 2 portions and all that is left is the rounded corner at the intersection of Fulton and Greenwich. Snapped a picture of the roof since no one has really seen what it ended up looking like since the live feed camera’s atop the Millennium Hilton were turned off.
That would be me. The first time that I saw a rendering of this building, it was the first image that came to mind!
Oooh I have been dying for photos from this angle as well since that camera went down! I need to get back to the city myself. Thank you for these awesome pictures!
I guess they saved some money on the roof.
Great pics!
I really am so curious to see how they work out the Greenwich situation when this opens in September. That’s going to be a huge gap between the PAC completed side and the uncompleted side at 2 WTC. I wonder if they would do a temporary “plaza” in front of 2 WTC like they have at the Church St. side.
I wonder how they will match with the pavers on the WTC1 side? Maybe they are using the wall/bench as some kind of boundary between the two?
This might give you an idea of what it could look like all set and done. The red X’s are the steel columns and the blue line would be the outline of the building. Yes, this section of Greenwich St. would still be huge but, remember there’s the road in front of 7 wtc and the road in front of the post office building.
The angle change does occur abruptly at the bench wall thing. I dont think it’s that weird though since this is an occurance at each buildings sidewalk pavers, in a similar manner to how the Oculus’ pavers are parellel with it but seem angled to 3 WTC’s paver direction/layout.
I think StrongIsland was more gesturing towards what they are going to do with Greenwich when this side of it is completed rather than how it will look in the end, if they are just going to leave it super wide, or add more temporary sidewalk to the 2 WTC side to narrow it.
