Absolutely stunning
Good grief, now that is special. I donât know how it would work with windows, but imagine a 1000 ft+ skyscraper on the skyline with that same effect.
Itâs remarkable. Unique as far as I know. (But maybe someone knows of a similar building.)
As far as back-lighting marble and other similar stone, itâs not really unique in that aspect as thatâs been done on/in multiple applications, itâs the scale that is unique.
The closest large scale building would be the Yale Beinecke Library (which was a partial inspiration to REX) which has a near same appearance to the marble on this building when in the interior. It however does not light up as much at night as there are rare books inside.
Overall, Iâm happy with the lighting, though still wish it was slightly cooler in tone. I love how the âweightâ of the veining changes the brightness of the lights in distinct parts of the building where it is most dense.
Thanks TKDV. Forgot about the Beineckeâalso a classy building on a small scale.
What makes this building so special (compared to Beinecke) is the thought they put into the pattern of the marble veining. A truly spectacular work of architectural art. Thanks to Mr. Perelman for being so generous.
Awesome pics! Is it on every night now?
Right, I wish all those uber rich people would do more stuff like Perelman. There are only a few ways that capitol can be spent thats better than building stuff.
What exactly is not true about my post? I used Beinecke as a closest precedent in my mind at that moment and because REX said that they used it as inspiration, that doesnât mean itâs false. Pius Church is another example, but in terms of striating and veining of the marble, Beinecke is more similar, Piusâs marble is extremely uniform on the outside and has little (visible) veining, Pius has a better relation in terms of structure and how itâs hanging, But neither are overall comparable to this building.
They are finally finishing the base. They chose a different material for the back. I would have preferred to have the same black stone instead.
Well then, Iâm just as suprised as you are in seeing that cladding. I wouldâve liked for it to have been the same cladding as well but white if that were the case, not an entirely different âset/typeâ of cladding, but overall it kind of makes sense to have done it in a different color/type (even if not cohesive as it turned out) because itâs itâs own volume from the main volume.
Atleast they bothered to line up the horizontal seam to one of the black stone seams on the main volume. I am however, NOT, a fan of that railing for the deck, who chose that⌠I swear I saw glass railing installed on an earlier photo.
Yes, they were so restrained and minimal on the overall design, they kinda lost their way here. Maybe it has something to do with the garage downstairs
I mean the whole ground floor of the building mass âisâ the entrance and ramp to the North VSC, they were able to masterfully integrate venting on the black cladding so Idk why they chose to make the back part so different, both in terms of the venting and the cladding choice. Thatâs extremely unfortunate because the whole attachment looks out of place.
Over promise, under deliver. The modern architects way.
I didnât know that pranking in architecture is a thing.
It is. Itâs called value engineering
Well idk if one can consider something value engineered if it was always intended to appear such a way. We never saw renders of the back sideâs face only a render of the deck, so it couldâve always looked like that, but I wouldnt call it VE in this case.
I see pranking as something different, this is a good case of that, we never saw what it looked like, and it ended up not looking so great.
