NEW YORK | Penn Station Expansion/Improvements

you are completely ignoring that tons of companies are already rehabbing beautiful old buildings for their headquarters.

Also, everyone seems to love this soooo…

There is no doubt that the original Penn could be rebuilt at a doable cost, but, sadly, even if a miracle occurs and MSG moves, Vornado’s heinous 2 Penn still stands in the way.

Interesting read. As an NJT commuter myself, I’ve wondered what plans they had for us in this project. I realize Cuomo has to think about his own state first, but NJ needs an improved transit experience coming into Penn Station as well.

How much is NJ contributing to this?

Why during the 60’s they f&*%$# every thing up. All of those really nice buildings just gone.

This is a new building built in Hungary, it looks like a station but i dont know what it is, but it would be perfect for the block south of MSG

Exactly!!!

The amount of people that like beautiful old architecture far outnumber people who like glass boxes. Seriously with 3D CAD programs and modern manufacturing processes these types of buildings are totally doable again.

What’s the name of this?

Holy cow @robermat, this is incredible! I think this link deserves to be expounded on a bit more.

Experience Penn Station is an interactive digital experience that allows viewers to experience the original Pennsylvania Station in New York by McKim, Mead & White. The panoramic imagery is generated using an accurate 3D model based on the original architectural drawings and archival photographs of the station.

About the creator:

[Jose Hernandez is] a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania pursuing an M.S. in Historic Preservation with a specialization in Architectural Conservation.

I’ve been hoping someone would make something like this. Can’t wait to see it refined, and hopefully he’ll release a geopositioned version for smartphones, tablets, VR, etc so you can go on site and look back in time.

I’m going to kick this kid a few bucks, I hope some of you will too.

I donated. I Googled to see if this was legit before I did and this was on his CV. I wonder if he’s on these message boards. If so, say “hi” Jose.

he goes by Otie here, and pops in sporadically to share some of his work.

Sadly, we will be stuck with the worst arena in sports and the worst train station in the world for many years.

Folks, what’s going into the giant Kmart space in the LIRR concourse (which also extends to the first floor of One Penn Plaza) after they close in May? Does anyone know?

Penn station is a dark and damp Petri dish. I wonder if this pandemic will renew calls to build a new, world class, open air transit hub?

I doubt it.
