Rode the bus in today. Rebar for columns for the cap over the Lincoln Tunnel is now being set up.
Are they planning to do anything on the road caps? Parks, housing?
3.5 acres of parks/public green space
I think the open space/park concept is an incredible waste of investment and real estate potential. With a bit more engineering you could float thousands of units of housing over the tunnel approaches. It seems crazy to me to squander it on useless open space that doesn’t naturally integrate with the surrounding neighborhood, is untraditionally bordered like a community garden on an empty lot, and very close to where an extension of Bella Abzug is already planned.
Building housing over tunnel openings may not be a good idea given the amount of traffic exhaust and noise rising up into those apartments.
In your second picture, I can see some freshly-poured pilecaps south of the Lincoln Tunnel entrance portal. I wonder if these are for the new ramps structure.
The future is electric so that’s not really the issue.
Us city folk need parks and open space too!
