Here’s an official update from the PA. Steel installation for the deckover project is now underway.
They chose an unfortunate color for the steel beams, though. White is going to look gross fast.
It also looks like The Spiral’s starting to get lighting failures on the “spiral” elements.

They are starting to deck over dyer between 37-38th sts. These new white beams were just put in over the last 2 weeks.

Incredible update.
I was on the bus today, and they’re getting ready to make a concrete pour. This section is visible right when you exit the tunnel, and the bus is going left to get to the PABT. There’s rebar and other formwork in place over one of the areas. No daylight’s visible under several of the beams.

I saw that movie (Speed) in the theater in NYC on the afternoon of June 17, 1994. I walked out of the theater and saw a TV in a store window. The O.J. Simpson white Bronco chase was happening live. One of my three most surreal movie experiences.

I had the jumbo Speed poster with the bus leaping the freeway ramp as a kid. That movie rocked. Or at least rocked in 1994 when you were 12.

the reality is that the work is on top of the lincoln tunnel arteries and the work can only be done at night.
they arent going to close tunnel tubes during the day to accomodate this.

I’ve been staring at the pinball machine they call the “New Ramp Structure”, combining that with my experiences being flung around in busses departing and arriving from the existing PA, and I must say I am not looking forward to looping the loop 5-6 times inside that planned structure.
