combine the Rockaway and Bronx routes into one monster ferry route spanning from Throgs Neck to Rockaway Park, with stops in four of the five boroughs (no subway line serves more than 3 boroughs)
split the East River Route into “A” route and “B” route, a type of “skip stop” service
link Staten and Brooklyn by ferry again by combining Bay Ridge/Sunset Park and Saint George routes
I am hoping the NYC Ferry system transitions to using numbered or lettered lines (or even named geography-neutral lines like the London Overground) - as it’s not really intuitive that someone traveling from Wall Street to Bay Ridge would take a “Saint George boat” or someone traveling from Midtown to Brooklyn Navy Yard would need to board the “Astoria ferry.”
It would be nice if they could do a ferry from the Westchester cities and towns all the way to the city. Yonkers to Midtown Manhattan would have an amazing view of the Palisades.
Highest ridership in a single month in August 2025 with 1,014,317 total boardings — a 17 percent increase over August 2024 and the first time NYC Ferry has had more than 1 million boardings in a single month ever.
Highest ridership in a single week from August 4 through August 10 with 240,264 total boardings.
Highest ridership in a single day on Saturday, August 2 with 52,923 boardings.
new ferry boat map beginning December 8, 2025, including the monster Throgs Neck-Rockaway route - serving four boroughs. As well as the new Brooklyn-Staten connection.
I’m surprised nobody has thought about ferry service to LGA Airport. This should be considered since they are planning a new Terminal A and it could be integrated easily into it. They can even run a shuttle bus to bring ferry riders to the other terminals.
This is how close Terminal A is to the water (it was a seaplane terminal after all).
