I agree, the original proposal was the best. I could see the casino and ferris wheel as amenities across the FDR from the main development block, though. It would be nice to have an answer to the London Eye and maybe a Singapore of the West as well.
Much better architecture than I feared we might see for Caesars. This fits Times Square like a glove.
Of the major proposals, I think Iâm rooting for this one or Coney Island. The East River proposal has a good design and I like the ferris wheel, but itâs in a bit of a transit desert and would generate a lot of car traffic. And I really donât like the idea of squeezing a casino into Hudson Yards alongside residential, a school and offices â adding a tourist trap like a casino into the mix will prevent HY from ever feeling a real neighborhood.
Yeah, Hudson Yards had its brute force moment on the skyline. Now, itâs time to add context, class and a bit more softness to it. A casino is not the way. The east river proposal presents a unique spin on things, but I think for that site, itâs just better with substance over style. Coney Island could use some activity and this one could present a decent boost to Times Square. Overall, the 70âs are back and something needs to happen.
In what ways are the 70s back in Times Sq?
The whole holding pattern itâs in.
My vote is for Times Square. Most everyday New Yorkers (including myself) will go nowhere near this casino. It just makes sense to put it in the one place where most New Yorkers avoid.
Please elaborate
Tons of the same things. More and more of those same LED displays, same panhandlers, same sponsors, same commercialization, particularly the tech companies, I mean, still the FAANG stocks especially. The big department anchors, Nordstrom, Macyâs, Neiman Marcus in particular, all just seem to always have adverts there 24/7.
I mean if SLG/CP get the license, whatâs depicted in the renders isnât going to really change this âholding patternâ, theres still gonna be giant LED screens (more than whatâs currently on 1515 Broadway atm) and the top one isnât just going to say Caesarâs Palace all the time, Itâd also be an advertising board. Unless I am just reading your initial comment wrong and you are saying that more things need to be the same.
No, I am generally a change-welcoming person and I think that a casino will be great for Times Square at the end of the day. It just always seems to be the same gaming companies like MGM, Caesars, and the like. I guess I just tend to put myself wrong sometimes. I am getting better at it, though.
Ah, thatâs understandable, but in general, youâre always going to see the bigger gaming corporations making headways or being selected to partner for a development, itâs not really a sector where small companies venture out or are chosen out of unsureness.
Another proposal on the table.
