There’s strong demand for new office space in the right location. This dump is not the right location. I’ve been saying for years that no high-end firm will pay $150+/sf to be in this sewer. However, it has the potential to be nice some day.

Sites 4 and 5 are not proposed to be supertalls, so there won’t be supertalls next to Penn One, Site 6 barely pushes past being a supertall, so stop the dreaming, but also whats the obsession with site 6?

@mcart since noone wants to answer your question. Atm its diffcult to imagine how big a new MSG would be since arena venues come in all different shapes and sizes. Nevertheless, if we use the current one as a model that were to move to Hudson Yards, it actually wouldn’t take up that much space, only about 30-40%. I would also like for the residential aspects of the site to not be lost and it could definitely be repositioned with larger apartment buildings similar to 601 W 29th St. A lot of stuff would have to be rezoned though from the current plan.

Not to mention, not every tower needs to be super tall. de Portzamparc’s 400 PAS is stunning, and it’s less than 500’ tall to my knowledge.

Off topic but I walked though the new LIRR concourse this weekend and it is a vast improvement.

Any eitherway, even if MSG is demolished they aren’t just going to demolish/redesign everything in the new concourse that they just built. There’s nothing wrong with it, it is good enough.

Chakrabarti commented on that. He stated that what they’re doing now is a start that would complement a new station, which he proposed to be the current MSG with a glass facade and all interior elements and columns removed.

Ok, I don’t think you have to describe the old Chakrabarti proposal everytime you mention it, I think it’s pretty clear/plain what it entails. :+1:

If that’s the case, it kind of contradicts everything about relocating MSG to a new location.

This is no way relates to a station buried under MSG. It has 150’ ceilings and is fully transparent.

I’d also like to see the city close 31st and 33rd and make them pedestrian plazas. Ideally, the city could also buy that heinous garage on 31st and raze it, together with the dilapidated remnant of Penn next door, and transform the area into a park.

I think it needs to be taken into account that CB5’s resolution is just a recommendations, yes, the city in the end is the one who makes the final decision, but it’s very very hard to find that they would carte blanche just not renew the permit.

I’ve said this so many times that the city fully understands the implications of not renewing MSG’s permit because of the local revenue generated by events hosted at the venue. It’d be much more reasonable for them to reissue “another” short term permit so that MSG can actually be moved/planned/and built without disrupting services or a flow of revenue.

I want to see this noxious tumor removed from the Penn Station site. If this does not occur, then,At a minimum, a far more comprehensive reclad is warranted. It won’t address the problems with Penn, but at least it would address how brutally heinous and vile MSG is.
