NEW YORK | Long Island City - General News, Photos & Discussion

That’s a great shot. I live in that neighborhood and usually have a hard time getting a shot of my building. This is by far the best angle I’ve seen of it. Crazy how many high rises there are around here now.

this height is actually gonna be crazy for the area, and will help bridge the growing Northern Blvd corridor with LIC and the eventual sunnyside yards development

The 7 Train has some of the best views of LIC, second to none.

The specific POV where I took these shots is also a limited-time ordeal due to 7 train construction: there’s a temporary extended platform (it just got moved from the Manhattan side) so a far more unique perspective can be had.

Jackson Ave LIC is one of the most transformed streets in NYC looking back the last 20 years.
Same streetview location 2007 vs 2026:

I hope the area that has been recently rezoned by the river will give a little bit more architecturally. LIC skyline suffers from too much glass, Jersey City does as well. I think if we can mix it up like the newer buildings that are going up in Gowanus, it could improve the skyline.

Yeah, it’s not ugly per se, just too sterile: it definitely needs more variety.

I went to Roosevelt Island the other day and it was a nice, quiet neighborhood. The tram was really cool with all the lights, would recommend :+1:

Looks like Lumen LIC / 43-30 24th St finally turned their crown lights on.

Didn’t notice that, took long enough.

Wonderful. It’s too prominent to be that dark at night.

A year from now, in that same frame, there should be at least 4 new buildings on the skyline. They’re glass but all a bit different, and 24-19 Jackson imo is a gorgeous building based on the rendering: https://newyorkyimby.com/2025/12/foundations-progressing-for-55-story-skyscraper-at-24-19-jackson-avenue-in-long-island-city-queens.html and this one I think could be good too https://newyorkyimby.com/2025/12/excavation-resumes-for-525-foot-skyscraper-at-30-25-queens-boulevard-in-long-island-city-queens.html

Personally I like how LIC (esp the queensboro plaza jackson ave court sq cluster) is glassy because it is essentially an entirely new + modern neighborhood in nyc; and the glass makes it seem that way, almost futuristic. But it will look better filled in a bit more and especially if in gets a defining building (900 ft) or something with a sloped roof.
