Standard Motor Products is renewing its 75,000-square-foot headquarters at its namesake building in Long Island City, Queens, Commercial Observer has learned.

The company — which produces engine parts, heating and cooling systems, power window systems and windshield washing equipment for auto manufacturers — has been operating out of the building at 37-18 Northern Boulevard for more than 70 years

This area (Dutch Kills) and the surrounding general area has so much untapped potential for densification (the same way we see it happening in neighboring LIC), it’s crazy. As of right now, it’s completely soulless and barren with lower density buildings that are either hotels or halfway houses. I am hoping that the development we see happening in LIC slowly creeps into this area — it’s needed.
