It’s been 40 years since this site was taken by eminent domain, two years since the concrete plant moved out, and two years since this article. It would be nice to hear some development news sometime in the near future.
they’re really calling it Gowanus Green?
Is it like we have this kind of construction in the coming future?
Yes!
It looks amazing.
I don’t know if they’re still going with that name, or if they’re preparing the site for construction. They were using the site for initial canal remediation work last year. But this does appear to be green plywood fencing.
Is it like it is still in the working condition?

where is that??
For an update on what has happened to this site in the past few years:
In Fall 2021, the EPA’s Gowanus Superfund Chief Engineer, Christos Tsiamis, expressed concern about developing the Public Place (Gowanus Green) site. This idea was swiftly rejected by the city and others at the EPA.
In February 2022, community groups Friends and Residents of Greater Gowanus (FROGG) and Voice of Gowanus (VOG) sued the city, alleging that not enough had been done to clean up the site to allow rezoning to proceed.
In March 2022, a pro-development minority of Gowanus Community Advisory Group (CAG) members, of which FROGG is a part, sent a letter to the EPA expressing frustration over other members’ overstepping of the CAG’s mission, demanding a refocusing on the Superfund site and threatening resignation. This letter was discovered publicly by other members in January 2023.
TLDR: Site appears to be in legal limbo, as detractors voice environmental safety concerns over proceeding of the rezoning
