NJ Transit just published some nice Portal Bridge photos to their social media and the CEO inspected the project.

Enjoy the closeup of the arches.

CBS is a bit late with this one

However, NJ Transit expects the bridge to open by mid-2026. They plan to invite President Trump to its opening despite him attempting to delay funding in the past over petty politics.

And the Gateway CEO is optimistic about staying on time and in budget.

Looks like they’re starting to lay track. One minute in and we can see the outer track closest to the existing line is being laid. No time wasted here. That will probably be the track that opens first in 2026. Also, all non-arch catenary poles are almost fully installed. Lots of excellent progress going on.

The arches of the Portal North Bridge would be beautiful with a nice LED installation.

I agree. I unfortunately haven’t found anything indicating some kind of lighting installation.

They only plan for lighting on the Dock Bridge in Newark when they lock it shut.

There probably won’t be any huge developments at Portal now that the third arch is installed. The next big thing is when the wires start being hung. The focus now is to start laying track, putting down the bridge deck and stringing the catenary. With the 3rd arch fully in place, Mammoet is packing up their jacks and preparing to take them off-site.

The northern side also has almost all the catenary poles installed, with one left to be put in. There’s also the last pylon for the wiring that goes over the river that is being delivered for assembly.

Some site closeups:

The excavation at Tonelle Avenue is progressing smoothly and with each day, the pit gets deeper.

In New York, a second pit for the casing is being dug. This is where it likely joins up with the portion they built as a part of Hudson Yards’ phase 1.

Following a slump in excavation speed at Tonnelle Avenue, things have sped up considerably within the last week. They’re almost to the bottom and sunlight can be seen underneath the first portion. That’s how you know they’re close. Once the digging hits ground level, preparations for the concrete retaining walls will begin and then the eventual bridge deck.

Steel beams for the permanent utility relocation were also identified. These will be used to permanently relocate water and gas mains over the open-cut. These will be installed during the third and final phase of the project.

The Hudson Yards project is progressing with the pits getting deeper. The new pit also now has the cross-bracing to keep the sides from collapsing now that the pit is quite deep.

At the Portal Bridge, they’re starting to do some wiring for the catenary.
Looks like some kind of breaker boxes are being installed on a bunch of poles.
