It’s that time of the month again: Trump is once again saying he wants to kill congestion pricing, throwing a tantrum over it on his social media. As expected, he since has moved on to other things (particularly the huge blowout during the elections).
This is just in connection with Stefanik/MAGA entering the governor’s race.
It’s all noise, and Duffy has other fish to fry given the airport issues. Also, unlike the previous time that congestion pricing was on the president’s radar, the state governor has a lot more resources to tackle this (New York Is Quietly Preparing Against Trump’s Takeover of the City - POLITICO) and the federal government has less resources than before, due to large-scale attrition at DOJ.
A lot of the things the President says are all noise. He’s busy trying to stall the Epstein files being released, blaming democrats for his government shutdown, and rigging elections.
We are almost one year in with having congestion pricing. The federal government has also been quietly still trying to kill it although all the prior attempts to stop the program have failed.
Air quality also increased in a number of areas, including in the outer boroughs as well.
It must be a slow news cycle because the President has decided to complain about congestion pricing despite its successes. But fear not, he’s too busy planning an invasion of Greenland, so he won’t do anything about the toll other than complain.
It clearly is working, with the NY Times reporting that over 27 million car trips have been reduced with drivers experiencing higher speeds, more parking, and less traffic.
The NY Compost thinks the MTA earning an extra 62 million makes the extremely successful Congestion Pricing program a “cash grab”. That extra cash just proves how successful it is.
Even suburbs outside the City are benefitting from it. It’s clearly not a failure and critics have to grasp at straws since they all have been proven wrong.
