I’ll miss the sign more than anything.
massing and height brings to mind 35 Hudson Yards.
Remember when CitySpire was illegal height?
I don’t, because I wasn’t around then. But I read the story, and it’s interesting
Illegal height for @TK2000 meant meeting the 4’ requirement to ride the bumper cars at Coney Island
. But I’m almost old enough!
Oh, looks like I can’t ride them…or join the military LOL

Thanks for the pics
but this demo is so atrocious, I could throw up!
rip in peace
look at all the garbage behind it. 21st century midtown will be uninviting and uninspired compared to what is being replaced.
the worst is the latest proposal for 509 Madison which replaces an Art Deco classic with a literal stack of glass boxes. Feels like the archetype of this problem
Meh…I like the old building but it’s nothing special. I’ll wait until I see the actual design of the replacement. If it’s truly junk, then I will agree with you guys that the demo was not worth it.
As a mid-century modernism fan, I liked the old 270 Park a lot, but when I saw the full design of the new tower, I was totally converted and no longer found myself upset by the demo. Now contrast that with the great little Albert Kahn building further south on Broadway that is being replaced by utter junk…THAT’S a demo to cry over!
The whole city is being replaced from looking interesting at street level to looking impressive from a distance.
^^ Yup, exactly!!
What about Lantern House? Solar Carve? There’s many more examples
lantern house is gorge
