In the first pic you can see what looks like a steel object with studs at the east end of the site, I assume for some kind of reinforced concrete retaining wall. Maybe related?
Speaking of Related, seems like they love concrete office buildings wherever possible. I wonder if this one will be.

I don’t know anything beyond the renders, but they can’t be that huge if this will be ~45 floors 850k sf: Average less than 20k per floor.
I do notice they’re using the steel pipes method for shoring up the perimeter wall.

I kinda agree.. It would look muuuch better with a more square shape than the rectangular shape it has in that Central Park render (screen grab’d below). Alternatively, if it had some sort of nested, setback’d crown, that would greatly improve the visuals.
It looked more square in the original rendering:
They could’ve even made the cladding a more tan/light gold color to make it more contextual with the classical surroundings.

Also is it just me or is that Central Park render’s perspective a little bit off?? Shouldn’t it be a bit more obscured by the General Motors Building?.. since it’s right on the next block over from it, right across Madison Ave. I could be wrong, but just asking.

This is the largest version they’ve come up with by square footage because of the larger floors in an office building.
The resi supertall would’ve been really skinny, but top of the office market is really strong right now and this site checks more boxes for a high end office building. Related is drooling over the idea of rents approaching $400/sf; potentially the highest in the city.
That said I’m not impressed by the design and surprised it’s not more along the lines of 45 floors/800 feet like 70 Hudson Yards (70 is much larger at 1.4M v 0.85M).
