I was looking forward to a true skyscraper on this site, but unfortunately we’re only getting a cloudbuster.

What a missed opportunity.

And extremely tall building with that sort of program on a lot of this size doesnt really make sense, 1200 sounds pretty reasonable considering how large the lot footprint is.

Hopefully it looks good, I care more about that than the height.

I’d love to see someone mock this up with a placeholder as seen from Central Park. I suspect it’ll have an even more dominating presence in the park than 432 Park does, even though it’s a bit shorter.

There is also a huge incentive for Related to build a casino on Phase Two.
Another supertall that could perhaps be built in the near future with the one on Park Ave. Interesting years ahead and hopefully a few more to come in the Grand Central Zone as well as the 57th Street corridor.

According to SSP information, the whole building is supposed to be scaffolded, could someone here take an up-to-date picture of the building?

I’m going to try and make my way into that area today so hopefully I dont forget to try and take a snap or two :+1:

The whole building is not fully covered in scaffolding yet as the one individual on SSP mentioned, there’s still a lot more that needs to be put up and then the giant tarps on the outside need to be put up before any actual demolition begins/can begin. Maybe another week or 2 until any visible demolition begins.

Demolition will then begin at the beginning of September and be completed in 9 months. Another supertall for New York and another destroyed building in my collection.

Thanks for the update.

Can this be 1200 feet?

Comparing it to 432, it’s shown to be bit taller in that picture, likely somewhere from 70 to 120ft overestimated.

At 1200ft it’ll come up to the uppermost mechanical through-floors on 432. Same height as BofA spire I believe.

„We first reported in July that Related Cos. will take down 625 Madison between East 58th and 59th streets for a mixed-use supertall tower that may rise to more than 1,200 feet.

He noted that since both the new 625 and 655 Madison “will likely now have a major residential component,” they will “follow the recent precedents of new construction on Madison with high-end retail on the lower floors, and luxury residential above.”

„ Another example of New York City’s postwar office building boom is coming down.

The Related Cos. has filed demolition plans for 625 Madison Ave., an office tower that it reportedly plans to replace with a luxury condo and hotel project.

The developer behind Hudson Yards filed plans to demolish the 563K, 17-story office tower with the New York City Department of Buildings in late August, Crain’s New York Business first reported.

Demolition work on the interior of the building has already started while the developer expects the full demolition plans to take around nine months to execute, Related spokesperson Natalie Ravitz told Crain’s.“

I read on DOB now about 655 Madison Ave. that the complete demolition was approved (as of late August). So 655 Madison Ave. is also about to be redeveloped, hopefully two supertalls will be built next to each other at the same time.
