I don’t care what anyone says, these towers still impress me
Agreed! they look great on the skyline!
I completely agree. Initially, I was among those who didn’t like how they protruded like pencils, but I’ve grown to appreciate them more and more. Now that 270 Park Ave is nearly finished, its bulkiness helps to balance the skyline.
Yup, I also agree with that, 270 Park is doing a great job as in a “filler” from the Central Park view. But with the 57th Street towers, their engineering is amazing. CPT has a cantilever over 300 feet tall and hanging out by just about 30 feet, with the structure slightly spiraling to the top. And 111 West 57th Street, to this day it’s still the thinnest tower in the world. It features great mathematical stepping to the top and a great way to use the terracotta to cover the necessary concrete walls on the east and west faces

It’s amazing to think that not that long ago, from that view point, you would have just been looking at open air above those low rises.
Now the vantage point from my bedroom window: I wish… ![]()
Kidding aside - I am glad that NYC had the zoning in place that made it possible for those tall slender building sprout up to those amazing heights. This I know is a NIMBY nightmare: but maybe if they woke up to a view like that every morning they would be more YIMBY. ![]()
